About Me
Software Developer • Maker • Beekeeper
Hi, I'm Rob Zelt
I'm a passionate software developer who loves learning through building innovative solutions and exploring new technologies. With a focus on creating emerging technologies and trends, I learn by building.
My day job is a Principal Software Engineer on the ITS Research Computing team at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where we support campus research through a variety of technical services and consulting, including operating a growing footprint of large-scale storage and CPU/GPU compute clusters.
Beyond the keyboard, I'm a maker at heart—whether it's crafting something in the workshop, experimenting with electronics, or tackling DIY projects around the home. I believe in learning by doing and constantly pushing the boundaries of what I can create.
When I'm not coding or making, you'll find me tending to our garden or beehives. Beekeeping has taught me patience, attention to detail, and the importance of working with nature. It's a rewarding hobby that connects me to the natural world and provides a different perspective on problem-solving.
Software Development
Building robust applications with modern technologies including .NET, C#, Azure, and web development frameworks. I specialize in creating scalable solutions that solve real-world problems.
Maker Projects
From 3D printing to electronics, with a little carpentry here and there, I love bringing ideas to life with my hands. Whether it's printing a custom replacement part or tinkering with Raspberry Pi projects, making things is my creative outlet.
Beekeeping
Managing beehives has taught me the value of patience, observation, and working in harmony with nature. It's a fascinating hobby that combines science, agriculture, and environmental stewardship.
